The President of the Junta de Extremadura, Guillermo Fernández Vara, has announced that this election campaign, his fifth as a candidate for the PSOE, will be his last.
The candidate himself confirmed this at a campaign event on the last day before the polls open on Sunday, when asked by journalists for his assessment of the campaign. He stated that it had been " very important", firstly "because it is the last, which is always important in life", he emphasized.
The campaign has allowed him to "present the balance of the work well done", and "above all" to present "an Extremadura of opportunities". This was in contrast to a "black and white" campaign with a focus on pessimism and nay-sayers by most parties, as opposed to a "hopeful, optimistic, future-oriented and inspiring" message of the socialists.
The President also indicated that the campaign was "very unusual", with the impression that the PSOE was the only party touring Extremadura with campaign events rather than just press conferences.
